History

Paul Godeau is very well-known throughout the cycling world. After a short cycling career, Bob Lelangue, former sports director of Eddy Merckx, asked him to help starting up the new cycling company of Eddy Merckx. He worked for this company as a mechanic-assembler until 1990. In that same period Eddy Merckx sent Paul to the ‘Tour de France’, in which he took part six times. Paul quickly became the regular mechanic of the Belgian National Cycling team. Needless to say his contribution to the World Titles of Johan Museeuw and Rudy Dhaenens is enormous.

After working a few years for the Belgian National Cycling team, Paul wanted a greater public to benefit of his experience and decided to start his own business. At first he did it part-time, combining his work with his activities in the Eddy Merckx factory. He built his first store in an empty building located on the Steenweg naar Halle, that was also used as set for the famous movie ‘Hector’ with Urbanus.

In 1990 Paul puts his fulltime work into his business and transfers his shop to a new building a bit further on the Steenweg naar Halle.

By 1994 he extended the shop for the first time, and in 2011 he invested again to build a beautiful 550 square meter showroom together with a specially adapted cycling workshop.

Today, the Godeau-team not only consists of Paul but also his wife Brigitte and Marc. Marc has more than 30 years of experience as mechanic and 24 of them at Eddy Merckx Cycles.

After all these years a strong friendship with Eddy Merckx and his son Axel remains. Being a regular, Eddy often comes to the shop to discuss the new evolutions and techniques in cycling.

Because we want to provide our customers the best and most recent modern techniques, we regularly visit cycling events and exhibitions in Belgium and elsewhere. All that because our customers deserve the best.
